John O’Hagan was once again teamed up with co-driver Peter Corkish for the Chris Kelly memorial/Jaks Rally, and also had two additional members joining the team, Gary and Paul who joined the team on spanner duty.
Starting off at number 29 John and Peter were having their first run in the new Vauxhall Astra GSI, the competition was very strong with eight other crews in the same class, four of them Astras with very different specifications.
During the first evenings stages the pair were pushing hard to make an impression on the time sheets, in some places pushing a bit to hard as they had a few spins which lost them time.
The evening ended the pair lying 28th overall and 4th in class C, not exactly what the crew wanted.
Saturday morning started off very cold and icy, by the time John and Peter were to start the first stage, the ice had gone, making the run slightly easier for them. Still trying to push, the pair found themselves moving up the leader board to 3rd in class, still knowing they would have a fight on their hands to keep that position.
Four stages from the end the pair had a radiator hose burst, which happened just before entering the service area. Gary and Paul were quickly notified and had the hose repaired before John and Pete were ready to start the next stage.
The Astra driven by John and Peter finished the rally 23rd overall and 4th in class, missing out on an award for 3rd by 2 seconds.
John and Peter would like to thank sponsors Island I.T. Services, Rallypac.com, Trade Distribution and new sponsors, Complete Office Supplies for their continuing support.
They would also like to thank the event organisers, marshals and timekeepers for their time running this top tarmac stages event.
A big thank you also goes to Gary and Paul for servicing for us, and keeping the car going to finish the rally. The team would also like to thank Peter Callister at www.petercallisterttphotos.co.uk and www.jcimages.co.uk for staying out in the cold to take pictures of the rally and the car.
